O'Grady grew up in Wheaton, Illinois, and attended Wheaton North High School in the year 1981. She is the daughter Jan O'Grady (a Financial planner) as well as Jim O'Grady. Her birthplace was in Detroit in Michigan. She was the child of Jan and Jim O'Grady as a financial planner. In commercials, she appeared before moving from Illinois' Wheaton to Los Angeles. O'Grady's early career was as model for Montgomery Ward model, where she also appeared in a variety of commercials. She made her debut on the screen with the romantic drama Having a Baby in 1988. She later played a regular role in the ABC Drama China Beach alongside Dana Delany. In addition, she guest-starred in a variety of other shows as well as appeared in made-for films and television shows. O'Grady was the big-haired secretary from 1993 to 1996 received Emmy Award nominees each year for Outstanding Drama Series Supporting actor. Barone was part of the cast in the show Carol & Company in early 1990s alongside actor Carol Burnett.
